Accra!

I am finally in Ghana. And I must say, it feels absolutely amazing! I love this country. But let me tell you what has happened so far.
Me and Marie got to Accra last night, got picked up by a couple of SYTO guys (The organization down here in Ghana) and was taken to the hotel. The flights and everything went fine, I was kinda freaking out at the passport control because the guy was asking me something and I couldn't hear what he was saying - it sounded like "How much do you weigh?" - but I am guessing that wasn't his actual question. After that, he just let me go. Anyway, back at the hotel we got put in a room with five other girls, three from Sweden, one from Norway and one from Germany. We went to bed right away but I actually woke up during the night because I was cold! I guess the air condition worked really well. ![]()
Today we got up pretty early, ate breakfast and drove to SYTO's offices. An awesome woman named Tina told us about cultural differences and health stuff, most of it I knew already but it's just good to be reminded. I also got to know the other 14 (I think) volunteers that are here this week, we're 4 from Norway, 1 German, 1 American and the rest from Sweden. Also, we're 14 girls and 1 boy. After the visit at SYTO, we went to the beach, which was a lot of fun! I even went for a swim, which was so refreshing, except when you felt a garbage bag on your leg, you see, the beach is also a place where people like to dump their garbage, haha. The waves were huge so that was fun too! We ate lunch there, which came about two hours after we ordered, but that was okay. The weather has been great, I actually got kind of chilly on the beach, it's not very humid at all and the temperature is perfect.
I have also been really careful with all things concerning hygiene, I have applied tons of sunscreen and mosquito repellent. All in all, it has been a great first day. But I can't wait for Friday, when we go to our projects and host families. Also, I have a Ghanaian cellphone number now, because we realized it's even cheaper to text and call than it would be if I was in Norway! I don't have the number right now but ask my parents if you want it, I also texted a lot of you guys, hopefully you will all receive the texts!
Okay I am gonna go now, we'll soon have dinner and then probably head to bed after that, I am tired. Tomorrow we're going sightseeing in Accra, and to the market! Bye!
